Great Lake Swimmers' latest album, The Waves The Wake Acoustic, is a beautiful collection of stripped-down versions of songs from their 2018 album, The Waves The Wake. The band has always been known for their lush instrumentation and haunting vocals, but this acoustic rendition takes their sound to a new level of intimacy and vulnerability.
The album opens with "The Talking Wind," a song that showcases lead singer Tony Dekker's delicate fingerpicking and emotive vocals. The stripped-down arrangement allows the listener to fully appreciate the lyrics, which are both introspective and poetic.
Other standout tracks include "Alone But Not Alone," which features haunting harmonies and a mournful cello, and "Root Systems," which highlights the band's ability to create a sense of atmosphere with just a few acoustic instruments.
